Today's feature product is the new 24 hr Color Tatto Eyeshadows by Maybelline EyeStudio. If you have not already read/seen the hype about these, let me explain in brief what these are. I would describe these to be a cream eyeshadow (or eyeshadow base) created by Maybelline that claims to have tattoo intensity and tenacity. They are very comparable to MAC Paint Pots. They come in a vide range of neutrals and vibrant colors (such as Teal, Orange & Purple). However, these seem to have better staying power than MAC Paint Pots and are much more affordable.
Where the Paint Pots have a slight clay-like consistency, these feel more along the lines of MUFE Aqua Creams and apply very similarly. However, these are made for eyes only (unlike the Aqua Creams which are multipurpose for lips and eyes.) Application is easily done with a brush or a clean finger. Product can easily be layered to build up intensity and they do last. On my oily eyelids, I would guess that these last about 6-7 hours on un-primed eyelids where MAC paint pots and MUFE aqua creams seem to last up to 5. However, throw a primer under any of these and they last 9+ hours easily. (note: if I use any of these as a eyeshadow base, they last about 30mins ~ 1 hour longer on me.)
Now I would like to keep in mind, generally cream eyeshadows from the drugstore are not great quality which is why many make-up users gravitate towards MAC, MUFE or Benefit for cream eyeshadows/bases. These, for being drugstore work wonderfully.
I purchased 2 neutrals and 1 'vibrant' color: Bad to the Bronze, Tough as Taupe and Pomegranate Punk. Bad to the Bronze is a metallic gold-toned bronze, Tough as Taupe is a deep, matte grayed taupe and is the hardest for me to describe, and Pomegranate Punk is a metallic crimson-burgundy. All of these swatched beautifully - as you can see below - in one generous swipe of product.
These glass jars have a plastic lid - much like the Maybelline gel eyeliner (only bigger) and have a nice weight to them but are not overly bulky or heavy. But overall, a great product for the price and the color range allows for good color experimentation if that is what you enjoy doing.
What's your favourite eyeshadow base?
