Revlon Lip Butters: Swatches & Review!

Warning: this post will be very picture heavy. I own 16 of the 20 shades available.

OH the famous revlon lip butters.  When these were released, I, like so many others hopped on the bandwagon and got caught up in the lip butter craze.  I applaude revlon for yet another extremely successful lip product.  These are some of the best lip products I own.

Revlon does an excellent job at producing high quality lip products in a wide range of colorus. The finish of these is along the lines of a  luster lipsticks with a tinted lip balm coloring.  But some are equally as pigmented as lipsticks and they are very reminiscent of Rouge Coco Shines by Chanel (also a luster finish.)  They are a healthy cross between glide on creamy balm and luster lipstick.

So as mentioned, I own 16 of the 20 revlon lip butter shades available.  I might have gone a little crazy - but I found most of these on some sort of sale.  For those of you who are like me and have a hard time deciding on what to get, hopefully this picture intensive post will help you out.

First, let's start off with the nudes/neutral shades.  Pink Truffle is a pinky brown shade,  a little darker than my natural lips but a nice neutral, shimmer-less shade.  Crème Brulee is a shimmery, nude shade. It can be a little light on my skin tone if I layer it on, so I tend to wear only one layer of this shade.  It has a beautiful shimmer to it though.  Peach Parfait is a pink based nude shade, a 'my lips but way better' and shimmery shade on most people.  It is the only shade with glitter in it and has to be one of my favorites.

My next category is my pinks.  Cotton Candy is a sheer, warm pink with a bit of gold shimmer to it, that goes on and simply makes your lips look more luscious - just like there's a shimmery balm on them.  This is probably one of the sheerest of the bunch.  Cupcake is a creamy, milky, baby doll blue-toned pink that is perfect for those who prefer lighter milky lip colors.  It is sheer but not as much as Cotton Candy. Strawberry Sorbet is a warm red-toned pink that has to be one of my favorites and is a perfect everyday color. Sweet Tart, the newest to my collection, is a bright (almost florescent) coral-pink and is the perfect 'pick-me-up' shade to liven up a look without over doing it.  A perfect spring and summer shade.

This is my 'red' to orange category. These shades have to be some of my favorites and are the most pigmented of all the shades.  Tutti Frutti is a bright coral shade.  There is nothing short of 'notice me' when you wear this as it simply radiates energy.  Candy Apple, one of my favorites, is a bright, juicy apple red.  This one makes the lips look like they have a clear gloss over top and thus my thoughts of 'juicy'.  Red Velvet is a deep, rich red. It runs darker and more pigmented than some of the other shades.  Next up is Lollipop, a bright dark pink shade (more to the berry tones).  This is the perfect alternative to a 'red' lip - a perfect transition color that would work well in all sessions.  Last but not least is Cherry Tart, a rich, warm, cherry red.  This is also one of my favorites and brings more warmth into a look than Candy Apple which is much brighter.

Last, but not least, are my purple shades.  Raspberry Pie is a pink, berry shade, which is a deeper shade that lollipop and is much less vibrant, making it more wearable.  Berry Smoothie is a sheer berry color that leans to the warmer end.  It is the perfect 'everyday color' for those with more pigmented lips or who prefer a richer colored lip shade.  Gumdrop is a milky, lilac purple shade which is very reminiscent of a the MAC shade " ".  It is one of those colors that you either love or hate.  Finally, we have Sugar Plum, a sheer berry/plum shade - and probably the sheerest lip butter.  This is one of those 'my lips but better' shade - because it is so sheer it would suit most people and barely looks like you have anything on.  Perfect for every day when you want a sheer wash of just-noticeable color.

Finally, I have to talk to you about the packaging - because no review is compete without it.  The plastic sleeves are coloured coded on the shade of lipstick and they have clear tops - which is conveniently done so that you can see the colour of the product inside.  They are also quilted-looking like the Colorburst Lipsticks by Revlon. The lipsticks wide up from the tube, just like a lipstick.


The only downfalls to these lip butters is that since it is an extremely soft product, it tends to squish and smear on the side of the tube after extended use. (If you look at my pictures carefully, you can tell which ones I use the most.)  The staying power is also not the best - I would give it 2 (possibly 3) hours at best.  But considering that it wears like a tinted lip balm, I wouldn't expect much more of it.  Overall, an amazing drugstore product that is worth the investment!  Yes, they live up to the hype.  I would recommend these if you're looking for easy to wear, inexpensive lip colours.
